Risograph printing is a unique digital printing technique that creates artwork with a distinctive, textured aesthetic reminiscent of vintage screen printing or photocopying. Using a drum-based system similar to older mimeograph machines, the risograph applies vibrant, soy-based inks one color at a time through stencils, resulting in slightly imperfect registration and organic color blending that gives each print character and charm.
Designers gravitate toward risograph printing because it offers an affordable way to produce limited-run publications, zines, and art prints while achieving rich, saturated colors and subtle imperfections that feel authentically handmade in our increasingly digital world.
The process embraces happy accidents and unpredictability, allowing for beautiful color overlays and grain patterns that would be impossible to replicate with conventional printing methods, making each piece feel special and artisanal despite being mechanically reproduced.
