Artist Statement
« C’est l’histoire d’un homme qui tombe d’un immeuble de 50 étages. A chaque étage il se répète :
« Jusqu’ici tout va bien. »
« Jusqu’ici tout va bien.»
« Jusqu’ici tout va bien. »
… mais l’important c’est pas la chute : c’est l’atterrissage. »
Inspired by the poignant French quote from La Haine, this interactive digital piece explores themes of denial, inevitability, and the human tendency to focus on the present while avoiding the weight of what lies ahead. The work centers around an infinite scroll interface, where the phrase « Jusqu’ici tout va bien. » (So far so good) repeats endlessly, creating a hypnotic rhythm that invites introspection.
The simplicity of the repetition mirrors the quote’s narrative of a man falling from a 50-story building, reassuring himself at each floor that everything is fine, while the unavoidable truth of the ground below looms. This tension between the fleeting comfort of the moment and the inevitability of an outcome becomes the heart of the piece, engaging viewers in a cyclical experience that refuses resolution.
Through its minimalist form and interactive nature, the piece invites participants to confront their own relationship with time, consequence, and the fragile reassurances we tell ourselves to navigate uncertainty. It is both a meditation on resilience and a reminder of the profound truths we often choose to ignore until the moment of impact.
