“She looks…” is a looped video piece that navigates the intimate and painful experience of witnessing a loved one lose themselves to Alzheimer’s disease. Through handwritten text that fades in and out on the screen, the piece captures fragmented moments of memory, identity, and connection—moments that slip away even as they’re desperately held onto.

The text unfolds as a reflection on my grandmother’s journey: her bewilderment at the unfamiliarity of her own hands, her inability to recognize me, and her yearning to return to a childhood home that exists only in memory. The final line, “and I,” stutters and lingers before disappearing, evoking the dual pain of watching her fade and the fear of my own potential forgetting.

The looping structure mirrors the cyclical nature of memory loss and the repeated heartbreak of these moments. The fading text echoes the transient, ephemeral nature of memory itself—at once present and slipping away.

This work is a meditation on loss, love, and the vulnerability of identity. It seeks to hold space for the pain of forgetting and being forgotten, while inviting viewers to confront their own fears and connections to memory and self.
