Artist Statement

“you are not alone” was a site-specific installation that sought to connect the unseen and the unnoticed. Nestled in a secluded area of the Belle Isle Marsh Reservation in Winthrop, MA—a place marked by quiet traces of habitation—the piece was designed to meet its viewers unexpectedly.

The installation featured 6-inch tall laser-cut wooden letters, arranged along the roots of a tree to spell out a message of reassurance: you are not alone. By situating the work off the beaten path, the piece invited discovery, creating an intimate dialogue between the natural environment, the viewer, and the invisible presence of others who share the space.

This work reflects a meditation on solitude and connection, using the quiet resonance of words and the grounding presence of a tree’s roots to offer comfort and reflection. It asks the viewer to pause, to consider the shared human need for connection, and to recognize the hidden traces of life that ripple through even the most secluded spaces.
