Artist Statement

“Cursive” is a series of digital photo prints that explores the interplay of line, form, and dimension. Each piece begins with intricate, curving black ink lines drawn on white paper—lines that mimic the fluidity and rhythm of handwriting. The paper is then bent or folded, transforming the flat surface into a sculptural object, where the curves take on new depth and complexity.

Photographed in black and white, the prints highlight the stark contrasts and subtle shadows created by the interaction of light with the folds. The process disrupts the linear continuity of the ink, inviting viewers to see the drawn lines as part of a larger, dynamic composition shaped by the physical manipulation of the paper.

Through “Cursive,” I explore the idea of writing as both a visual language and a physical gesture. The work reimagines the act of drawing and writing as an interplay between creation and distortion, two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality. This series invites viewers to reflect on how meaning can shift as form evolves, transforming the familiar into something unexpected.
